Women B: Week 2 Headlines feat. The Merge’s Tabitha Thomas

Hey everyone, hope you’ve had a great week so far. Week 2 finished a few days ago and we have a bit to talk about. At this point, Hiboux looks to be the team to beat as they sit at 3-0. We are also seeing certain individual players making a case for WR of the Year and one player separating herself on the defensive end. I got a chance to speak with The Merge’s Tabitha Thomas regarding her team and their outlook so keep reading to hear more about that.

Week 2 Headlines

Who can stop Hiboux?

The title is pretty self-explanatory: who can stop Hiboux?

Through three games, Hiboux have posted an incredible +111 point differential, which is almost unheard of this early in the season. After making the jump from Women 3, many expected them to be competitive, but few could have predicted this level of dominance.

A big reason for that success has been the play of quarterback Cassiopée Lemay. Her best statistical season came in Winter 2025 when she finished with 32 touchdowns against just 4 interceptions. Through three games this season, she is already on pace to shatter those numbers. Having a talented group of receivers certainly helps. Whether it's Laurence Gagnos, Beatrice Dubois or Elenore Lacasse, Hiboux have multiple athletes capable of stretching the field and creating mismatches at every level of the offence.

The defence has been just as impressive. Leane Lafriniere currently leads the division with 5 interceptions and has already returned 2 of them for touchdowns. When your defence is creating points while your offence is scoring at will, it's easy to understand why opponents have struggled to keep games competitive.

Their most recent statement came against The Originals, a team many expected to challenge near the top of the standings. Instead, Hiboux delivered a 54-0 victory in one of the most dominant performances we've seen so far this season.

That being said, there are still tests ahead. Matchups against Supernova, La Sororité and Cavaliers remain on the schedule, and those games will give us a better idea of whether Hiboux can maintain this pace throughout the season. Right now, though, they look like the team everyone else in Women B is trying to catch.

Can The Merge sweep Cavaliers?

Even though I'm not in Montreal this week, I still wanted to get some insight into a few of the recent games around Women B. I reached out to Tabitha Thomas to discuss The Merge's season so far and what her team can take into Saturday's rematch against Cavaliers.

In the first meeting, Tabitha led The Merge with 10 receptions and 2 touchdowns. She was supported offensively by Samora Fanta Sacko and Urline Constant, while on the other side, I watched Rosalie Pitre repeatedly use her speed to make defenders miss and create big plays, even in a losing effort. With how dangerous she looked in the open field, I would expect The Merge's defence to give her plenty of attention this weekend.

One thing worth remembering is that the first matchup was also Sarah-Maude Hamel's first game with The Merge. While there is no shortage of talent on this roster, chemistry takes time to build. After all, this team is exactly what its name suggests: a merge between two different groups of players learning to play together.

Tabitha emphasized that building chemistry with her quarterback starts with consistency. "Making precise runs, communicating effectively, and building a shared understanding of the game are essential," she explained. "If she knows exactly where we'll be and when we'll get there, it makes her job much easier."

That chemistry remains one of the biggest areas of focus moving forward. "We have talented players, so the more we play and practice together, the more we'll learn each other's quirks, strengths and weaknesses," said Tabitha. "It's important that we continue to develop that chemistry by communicating and working through game-like situations in practice."

The Merge is coming off a tough loss to Supernova, a game in which they had an opportunity to tie things late. Looking back, Tabitha pointed to a combination of missing players and missed opportunities. "We weren't at full strength, especially with two of our defensive girls unavailable," she said. "At the same time, Supernova was also missing some players, so credit to them for finding a way to get the win. Looking back, we missed on a few key plays and made some mistakes that could have made the difference in such a close game."

Now the focus shifts back to Cavaliers. The Merge already owns one victory in the season series, but nobody on the roster is expecting an easy game. "Our goal is to stay consistent, disciplined, communicate well, trust each other and make sure we're putting ourselves in the best position to succeed on every play," said Tabitha.

The Merge has the talent to compete with any team in Women B. If the chemistry continues to improve the way Tabitha expects it to, don't be surprised if this team looks significantly different by the time the playoffs arrive.

Can Wolfpack turn their season around this week?

As it stands right now, Wolfpack find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff picture. Cavaliers are also still searching for their first win, but they have a game in hand while Wolfpack will already be at five games played by the end of Week 3.

The biggest issue so far has been consistency on both sides of the ball. Whether it's been Lauriane Lapointe or Camille Dumas at quarterback, the offence has struggled to find a rhythm. Defensively, Wolfpack are currently allowing the most points per game in the division. Like Cavaliers, they are also still searching for their first interception and first sack of the season, which makes it difficult to swing momentum in close games.

The reason I'm not ready to count Wolfpack out is experience. Camille is no stranger to Women B and has proven throughout her FPF career that she can lead a team through adversity. She has a QB of the Year award to her name and has also enjoyed several strong seasons as a receiver. There is simply too much talent and experience on this roster for me to believe they'll stay near the bottom of the standings all season.

This upcoming week feels like a turning point. Wolfpack will face Supernova on Saturday before closing out the week with a rematch against The Originals. Neither game will be easy, but if they can find a way to go 2-0, or even split the two matchups, I'll feel much more confident about their chances of climbing back into the playoff race. Right now, the standings may not look great, but the season is far from over for this group.

Closing Remarks

That's all for this week's article. A big thank you to Tabitha for taking the time to answer a few questions and provide some insight into The Merge's season so far.

With several teams beginning to separate themselves in the standings while others look to get back into the playoff race, the next few weeks should make for some exciting matchups across Women B.
