Division 1: Quarterfinals Recap

Last Saturday, we had the remaining quarterfinals matchups from Division 1. Last week, we briefly talked about the Vultures and Fins Up matchup that was played earlier in the week. Semifinals will be played this upcoming Saturday in Brossard once the times are set. Let’s go through the games from Marie-Victorin.

Quarterfinals Recap

PartyCrashers def EZW 27-12

Prediction: PartyCrashers def EZW 41-30

A big factor that made me believe that PartyCrashers would win this matchup is how well their offence was engineered over the course of the regular season. Finding out that QB Jeanslee Alexis was not going to be throwing due to an injury shifted how I expected their offence to be run.

Emerson Peterkin is talented and a great QB, but going into the playoffs with a new QB in the lineup gave EZW a huge opportunity to capitalize. I expected a lot more points in this one, like many of the games that night, but we didn’t get that.

Both Peterkin and Jeremy White bring elite skills at the QB position, but in this one, both were feeling the pressure of the opposing defences. An early pick-6 by DPOY Fitzgerald Cenatus increased the PartyCrashers’ lead to 14–0, but that didn’t faze White and EZW.

By the end of the half, White led EZW to back-to-back TD drives and cut the lead to 14–12. The second half brought intensity for the PartyCrashers’ defence. Mendel Joseph picked off White on the opening drive of the second half, and Ryth-Jean Giraud found the end zone.

The EZW offence struggled the rest of the way, held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Even though Alexis was not throwing in this one, his impact was felt on the defensive end as well as through his leadership.

It wasn’t the high-scoring performance that I was expecting from PartyCrashers, but they did what was needed ahead of a semifinals appearance.

Braves def The Infantry 46-6

Prediction: Braves def The Infantry 43-28

This matchup was the main focus for most of 2025 when Kevin Wyeth joined The Infantry as QB. For both Braves and The Infantry, it was an underwhelming regular season, but mostly for the latter. In this game, it still involved high-level playmakers at the end of the day.

Braves defeated The Infantry in the regular season, but I expected another game that would bring fireworks to the Marie-Victorin evening. We definitely got fireworks, but only for one team. The Infantry couldn’t buy a score in the first half, while Braves were looking back to their prime form.

Whether it was Emile Chateauvert slipping past defenders or Phil Pharand making big pass break-ups, Braves were flying all over the field. As Braves extended their lead to 28–0, the morale of The Infantry was slowly fading. Wyeth found Felix Boutet in the end zone early in the second half to avoid the shutout, but the game was all but over.

Joe Maheu had only three incompletions, and James Drysdale had a game-high 3 INTs on defence, along with 2 offensive TDs. Speaking with Chateauvert before the game, he jokingly predicted a 75–0 win, and honestly, it felt like that in this one.

It’s an unfortunate end for The Infantry, given such a talented team, but Braves move on, proving that their reign of terror might not be over yet.

OneStop def Royaume Luminiare 18-6

Prediction: OneStop def Royaume Luminiare 32-30

The game I predicted to be the closest one was a slow and methodical one. The tie in the regular season suggested a close result in the playoff rematch.

The game started off hot for OneStop, as Michael Caparelli found Jahnai Lewis on the opening drive in the end zone, and the defence got an INT on the first play. Jesse Dupuis found Anthony Lapointe to tie the game, as each team had several stops in the half, ending it 6–6.

The game felt like a high-level chess match, as both teams were exchanging blows. Nicolas Knez was a nightmare as a rusher, finishing the game with 3 sacks. Lewis found the end zone late in the second half to extend the lead for OneStop.

Royaume Luminiare had a play on the following drive that lasted over a minute due to OneStop not sending a second rusher when they dropped a second QB. To end that long play, Thomas Angelin was called for a screening penalty, seemingly taking the momentum away from the OneStop defence.

With their back against the wall, Knez got his final sack, and OneStop closed the drive on 4th down at their own 5. AJ Zeppetelli broke the Royaume defence in the final minute to put the game out of reach, ending it with an 18–6 victory for OneStop.

It was a game full of defence, given the low scoring, but OneStop were able to use their athleticism to break the deadlock after halftime and move on.

Closing Remarks

That’s all for Division 1 after an action filled quarterfinals. The semifinals will be played this upcoming Saturday so I’ll have my previews for those later this week.
